In the week of January 10-14, 2022, the VU Amsterdam Graduate Winter School will offer an online course (3 EC) on “Gestures: How to analyse forms, functions, and meanings”. This introduction to gesture analysis is geared towards MA and PhD students as well as professionals. It is intended for those who have no background in gesture studies but who wish to learn more about communication by studying speakers’ manual movements in relation to language use. The course will be taught in English; it will be led by Alan Cienki (Director of the MA program in Multimodal Communication at VU Amsterdam and of the Multimodal Communication and Cognition Lab ‘PoliMod’ at Moscow State Linguistic University). Registration is now open, and there is an early-bird discount for those registering by Oct. 1.
