Abstract
Over two decades ago, Jerold Edmondson and Li Jinfang conducted linguistic fieldwork in the China–Vietnam borderlands, and posited the existence of a migration corridor running between Guizhou province and the northern provinces of Vietnam, passing through the eastern part of Yunnan. This hypothesis was based on linguistic evidence, so they called it the language corridor, and looked at the correspondences between the speech of isolated communities in northern Vietnam and speech varieties in Guizhou, Guangxi and Yunnan. Historic migrations of populations, large and small, bring with them other traces of their original homelands. In the case of the Tai-speaking peoples of the China–Vietnam area, the evidence includes local varieties of vernacular character scripts based on Chinese. This article will present new information based on survey evidence, and propose a new enhancement of established methods in historical anthropology and historical linguistics.

Abstract
The Lisu Syllabary was designed by an illiterate farmer in the 1920s and spread widely in Weixi County in the Yunnan Province of China. Its creation process proves that it is not necessary for a primitive writing system to undergo the stage of pictograph or ideograph; rather, the concept of syllabic segmentation may arise inherently in the human mind and may be successfully used in script designing. A font library including 989 computer glyphs is provided in the present paper in order to show the total appearance of the Lisu Script.

Abstract
Taliu 他留 symbols are a recently discovered early writing system. Many aspects of this early writing system are relevant to the study of the history of early writing. There are several topics relating to Taliu Script that are deserving of scholarly investigation and research. For example, within the study of early writing, research on Taliu Script is especially relevant to the scholarly discussion of the “initial stage of early writing.”

Abstract
The ‘eye disease incantation’ is a special category of manuscript recorded by the Naxi Dongba for the purpose of heal- ing through the power of incantation and meditation. Up to now, very few Dongba texts with incantations have been discovered or published, and Dongba texts which record incantations as well as depict scenes of meditation are even more rare. There are three ways to record Dongba script found in these texts: record the language completely; express the meaning via pictures; and create an expression that combines meaning and sound. The structure of the glyphs is characteristic of an early writing system which was mainly composed of pictographs and associative compounds. However, the high rate of phonetic loan glyphs and the appearance of pictophonetic glyphs show the characteristics of a mature writing system. This type of manuscript has value for studying the evolution of the relationship between Dongba language and script, and shamanic healing culture.

Abstract
Xianluoguan Yiyu is a series of Siamese-Chinese vocabularies compiled by the Ming and Qing government for translation or interpretation teachings. In choosing transcription characters, the compilers emphasized the agreement on initials and main vowels more than distinctions between voiced and unvoiced consonants. Various manuscripts reflect some phonetic characteristics in different periods during two centuries, in which it is proved that the sound changes of ʔb- > b- > m- and ʔd- > d- > l- were completed no later than the later period of the 17th century.

Abstract
In oracle bone inscriptions of the Shang dynasty, the writing position of the numeral month is relatively fixed, but there are also special writing positions. The formation of the special writing position of the numeral month in an oracle bone inscription is mainly influenced by five factors: zhaowen 兆文, the writing position of inscriptions, the format of line in an oracle bone inscription, the nature of the numeral month, and the writing materials of an oracle bone inscription. The influence of zhaowen on the writing position of the month is mainly manifested in fanzhao 犯兆. The influence of the writing position of inscriptions on the writing position of months includes two situations: the influence of the writing positions of inscriptions themselves and the influence of the writing position of the adjacent inscriptions. The influence of the format of line in oracle bone inscriptions on the writing position of months is mainly manifested in the direction of lines in oracle bone inscriptions. The influence of the nature of the month on the writing position of the month includes the independence and randomness of the month. The influence of the writing materials of an oracle bone inscription on the writing position of the month includes the scapula and the tortoise plastrons.

Abstract
Relationships between characters and words can be divided into two levels, the relationship among characters and the relationship among words – one of the core problems in Chinese philology. The relationships in Oracle Bone Inscriptions (OBIs) are very complicated due to the diversity of the configurations of graphs and the unclearness of phonetic information, which cause great difficulty in the study of these relationships, including whether characters are variants or have distinct meanings. OBIs have their own particularity, namely, a high degree of hieroglyphics. When studying the relationship between characters and words in OBIs, we are limited to actual divination materials and exploration of characters’ design intention. In this regard, relevant theories and methods in cognitive linguistics provide reference. In terms of characters, graphemes in the lao 牢-set, xian 陷-set, zhu 逐-set, kan 坎-set and che 车-set are visually distinct, but in terms of language are variants representing one word.
