华威大学在全英排名第八,其毕业生受雇主欢迎程度列全英第四。它的现代语言与文化系(School of Modern Languages and Cultures)的研究实力在全英排名第五。翻译研究更是华威大学历史悠久、实力强大的学科,翻译领域顶尖学者苏珊·巴斯奈特就是该校的荣休教授,如今每年都仍然会给硕士生和博士生们上大师课(master class)。


翻译与文化硕士是现代语言与文化系从2018年开始推出的全日制硕士课程,从推出起至今日,一直深受全世界各地学生的欢迎,尤其深受中国同学们的欢迎。课程的宗旨是增进同学们对翻译理论的理解,锻炼同学们翻译实践的能力。与单纯关注翻译的工具属性的硕士课程不同,本课程以其丰富的文化内涵和深刻的理论基础著称,兼顾文学翻译、新闻翻译、广告翻译等翻译实践的训练。课程为期一年,分为三个学期。第一学期主要修习必修课,包括“翻译研究:理论与实践”、“翻译实践”、“现代语言研究方法”等。第二学期主要修习选修课,包括“跨国文化”、“多语现象”、“文学翻译实践”等。第三学期主要是论文写作,同学会和自己的论文导师隔周讨论一次论文,一直到夏天结束时顺利提交论文为止。

 Dr Olga Castro

Olga Castro is an Associate Professor in Translation Studies (Hispanic) at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and convenor of the MA Translation and Cultures. She joined the University of Warwick as an Assistant Professor in September 2019. She obtained her PhD from the Universidade de Vigo, with International Doctorate Mention, and was awarded an Extraordinary Doctorate Prize for the best thesis in the humanities in 2010. Olga is sworn translator and interpreter Galician-English. She is also Vice-president of APTIS, the Association of Programmes in Translation and Interpreting Studies in the UK and Ireland.


Dr Qian Liu

Jane Qian Liu is Assistant Professor inTranslation and Chinese Studies. She completed her DPhil degree at Universityof Oxford, and taught four years at Beijing Normal University. She haspublished in English and in Chinese on modern Chinese literature, translationstudies, and comparative literature, including Transcultural Lyricism:Translation, Intertextuality, and the Rise of Emotion in Modern Chinese LoveFiction, 1899-1925 (Brill 2017), and ‘The Making of Transcultural Lyricism inSu Manshu’s Fiction Writing’ (Modern Chinese Literature and Culture, 2016). Hercurrent research examines literary reflections of particular affectiveexpressions in early Republican China.

 

Dr Will Amos

Dr Will Amos is Assistant Professor inFrench sociolinguistics and translation. Will holds a BA (Hons) in FrenchStudies, an MA in Modern Languages, and a PhD in Sociolinguistics, all from theUniversity of Liverpool. Before joining the French department at Warwick in2017, Will held positions at the universities of Liverpool, Lancaster, andLorraine (France), and worked with the AHRC theme 'Translating Cultures'(2013-18).

 

Dr Mila Milani

Before joining Warwick, Mila Milani was Research Assistant at the University of Reading, working on an AHRC-funded project entitled 'Mapping Literary Space: Literary Journals, Publishing Firms and Intellectuals in Italy, 1940-1960' (PI: Dr La Penna - University of Reading; Co-I: Dr Billiani - The University of Manchester).

She completed her AHRC-funded PhD at The University of Manchester in June 2013, with a research project focusing on the publishing strategies of poetry translation in post-WWII Italy.


Dr Julian Koch

Dr Koch studies the following topics: Post-WWIIGerman and French poetry; image and word relations; narratology; documentarieson genocide; analytical approaches to continental philosophy (esp. Kant);philosophical notions of the imagination (18-19th century)
